Neathan Gibson Becomes Executive Director
MFJ Announces Executive Director
The Board of Directors at Michigan Fire Juniors is very pleased and excited to announce that Neathan Gibson has accepted a position with our club as our new Executive Director.  This means that he will be in charge of all of the soccer operations of the club.  He will work directly with and oversee the work of the rest of the soccer leadership team (SLT) including our Girls & Boys Directors of Coaching (DOC's) and our Technical Director.  He will work closely with our DOC's in leading and advancing our coaching staff.  He will also work closely with our Technical Director, Dan McCallister, to continue to advance our very successful sparks program as well as our player technical development efforts.

The need for the establishment of this position has been known by the board for some time, but it not only needed to be the right person but also the right time.  The need for this position was also one that was a recently brought to light again during the NSCAA Club Standards project.  As a result of all of this, we entered into discussions with Neathan and are thrilled that he has accepted this position.

Neathan comes to us with a wealth of soccer knowledge and experience. He most recently was with the Grand Rapids Crew Juniors  for 2 years. Prior to that, Neathan oversaw the Des Moines Menace soccer operations. He was the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Ferris State University for four years and he was also the head coach for the Michigan Olympic Development Program's (ODP) U15 age group, twice winning Regional Championships.

Outside of coaching, Neathan played professionally for many years around the world. Making his trade in Malaysia, Japan, Sweden, and Finland before joining the Colorado Rapids of the MLS in 2001. Neathan finished his playing career with the Rochester Rhino's winning the A-League championship.

David Wood, our Boys DOC commented on Neathan joining our club: "We are all very excited to have someone of Neathan's caliber joining our club. Neathan knows what it takes to develop every level of player and will have an immediate impact on our program going forward."

Understandably, Neathan is excited to get to work and he said, "The strength and stability of the club, with the support from Chicago, is great.  Also, the opportunity provided by MFJ to run a professional club is a great advancement in my career. I'm looking forward to building new relationships with current members and new members."

Neathan is a graduate of Lynn University (Fla.).  He has earned United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "A" and "B" and National Youth License coaching licenses.

Neathan and his wife of 17 years, Denise, reside in Kentwood, with their three sons, Jack (13), Nash (10) and Vinnie (1 1/2).

You will find Neathan on the fields this spring getting to know our club and members.  Please welcome him when you see him.
